Roof Material Calculator
Estimate your total roofing squares and required material runs using your home's ground footprint size and roof pitch.
This includes a standard 10% material waste allowance for cuts, hips, and valleys common in metal panel layouts.
Total Roofing Squares
0 SquaresA standard "Square" is a 10x10 foot area (100 sq ft). Roofing materials are universally ordered using this metric.
Asphalt Bundle Equivalent
0 BundlesIf comparing systems, conventional asphalt shingles require 3 bundles per square to achieve full coverage.

How Roof Pitch Affects Material Estimates
You cannot estimate a roof replacement using only the flat square footage of your home's interior floor plan. As the steepness (pitch) of a roof increases, the actual surface area expands significantly. Professional contractors utilize geometric multipliers based on the International Building Code (IBC) definitions of rise and run to calculate true surface area.
What is a roofing square?
In the construction and roofing industries, a "square" is simply a unit of area equal to 100 square feet. For example, a roof with a true sloped surface area of 2,400 square feet would be measurement-rated as a 24-square roof.
Why do metal roofs require a waste calculation factor?
When installing custom metal panels, panels must be cut diagonally to fit cleanly along the valleys, hips, and gables of your home's architectural lines. These diagonal cuts create material drops that cannot be used elsewhere on the structure. A standard 10% to 15% waste factor is added to ensure you do not run out of panels mid-installation.
